Web Design Fashions Change for Better or Worse, but Small Business Websites Need to Change with Them
![3 Reasons You Need a Modern Website (No Matter What 'Modern' Means)](https://www.zooinajungle.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/3-reasons-you-need-a-modern-website-2.png)
It’s critically important to have an easy-to-use website that visitors find intuitive. But it’s just as important that visitors feel your website is modern. Here’s why:
- Customers equate an out-of-fashion website with an out-of-touch business. Anecdotally, I’ve heard consumers say things like, “Oh, I wouldn’t buy from them. Their website looks too old.”
- A modern website feels more secure. Customers care more about security now than they did in the past. Even if your website is perfectly secure, customers might assume it is insecure if it looks dated.
- Modern website design feels more familiar to visitors. If your website has many of the elements common to other websites, visitors will intuitively understand how to find what they are looking for.
‘Modern’ Changes Every Few Years
Like with any fashion, the definition of ‘modern’ changes. It’s a frustrating reality for many small businesses. Just a few years after spending so much time, money and effort on crafting the ideal website, it’s out of style.
So don’t try to make your website perfect each time it gets a facelift. Make sure it’s usable, attractive and secure– and let some of those tiny details go.
